History

In July 1984, about a dozen Sikh families from Dayton, Beavercreek, and Springfield got together to form Sikh Society of Dayton. The Gurdwara began as a monthly prayer services at various locations for almost 2 years.

At this point the community started to rent the first floor of the previous location of the Gurdwara at 1038 Forest Drive, Beavercreek once a month. Since no provision for preparing Langar was available, Sangat members brought Langat from Home. In Dec 1994, the Gurdwara building was purchased

Renovation and remodelling of the second floor of the building started in July 1998. In October 1998, Sangat started using the second floor for monthly Divan and the first floor became the Langar hall. Regular weekly diwan of Shabad Kirtan started in 2006. In 1985, classes were started to teach Sikhi, Punjabi language and Kirtan.

Sangat has grown over the years, the Sikh community now comprises of around 250 to 300 families. To accommodate the growing Sangat, a new building was purchased in October 2010 with 11+ acres of land with “Dhan Sewa” and no loan was taken out for the purchase. The new premises is located at 2320 Harshman Road, Dayton, OH 45424.

In 2013 a full time Granthi was employed to look after Guru Granth Sahib JI and to meet the religious necessities of the increased number of Sikh families in Dayton Ohio and surrounding areas. In 2017, the neighbouring 0.75 acre land was purchased.
In 2019/20 another long awaited project was completed: a commercial grade kitchen. The new kitchen is equipped with state of the art equipment, making it possible to prepare the entire Langar items in the kitchen.
